Next steps for your research project

The next steps for your research project are to complete step the second read/write sheet for your tier II research. You should narrow your inquiry question before you begin the second tier of research.

Please remember that your read/write sheet and your preliminary annotated works cited page are due 2/26 or 2/29 depending upon when I see you.

Due upon your return from break

Please remember that the Dialogic Journal (also called the Read/Write sheet) is due upon your return from break.

Be sure to complete the analysis task on the blog, which will be included in the Heart of Darkness discussion grade. Have a great break!

Extra credit assignment Heart of Darkness

Watch the film Apocalypse Now. The film is widely available, and I recommend that you watch the original edition as the edition that was released more recently is very long.

Once you have watched the film, choose three scenes from the film, and then find a corresponding passage in Heart of Darkness and a corresponding passage in Inferno. Then, in a well written paragraph, explain the significance of the passage in the film and explain the interpretation that the film gives to Dante and Conrad's passage.

You will need to write three of these paragraphs for the extra credit assignment. I would encourage you to choose scenes and passages that will help you think through the inquiry question you are working on for your research project.

The Week on 2/8-2/12

This week in class we are practicing close analysis in order to prepare for a graded class discussion (Thursday or Friday depending upon the block you are in).

Your homework over break is to do the initial reading for your synthesis project. Be sure to use the read/write sheet to document your initial reading and the ideas that you explore during your reading.

Today in class we complete the analysis process for the quotation on page 49 pertaining to Kurtz.

Your homework is to be sure that you have reread Heart of Darkness in order to work on analysis in small groups on Tuesday and in graded seminar on Thursday.
